Milking it…

Ever conscious of plastic use these days, I found a carton of milk which I will be purchasing from now on.

A box of milk

It tastes like any semi-skimmed milk, fits squarely in the fridge and carton can be easily recycled. I use it on cereals, to make porridge and in coffee (I don’t drink tea) and would even enjoy a whole glass of milk after a cooked breakfast or with a biscuit or two!

Recommended by me to you.

Not just any drink…

Small bottle, big taste

I grabbed this little bottle in a hurry one lunch time. A handy size when just needing a little refreshment. It is packed full of Vitamin C and antioxident. The Ginger and Apple pack a punch waking your tastebuds with a zing. There are other flavours too.

At only £1.50 it’s a great lunchtime treat in a recycleable bottle which, when empty and rinsed out could also be handy for a weekend away supply of shampoo or conditioner; a caravan/campervan washing up liquid container or for saving 20 pence pieces in.

Need to quench a bigger thirst? How about this tangy sparking spring water? First you get a taste of the mint, followed by the cucumber flavour. Hydration will soon be fixed. Plain water will never be the same again. Go on, give a go, you may be surprised. Available at your nearest Marks & Spencer food hall for just £1.00. http://marks and spencer food hall Or if you shop on-line use this link.

Please dispose of plastic bottles responsibly.

Wipe it!

I hate dishcloths. They are a nuisance. They are either too thin, too small, too thick, too big and where do you keep them between use? They get holes in them, they stain, they harbour germs, get smelly if not used, need bleaching or disinfecting regularly etc. etc. etc.

Thankfully I have found this gem of a cloth in Lakeland kitchen shop.

I know, it doesn’t look special but …
It is everything it says on the packet….
It’s an amazing multi-purpose cloth.

In Lakeland Kitchen Shop I stood for ages reading the cover/packet – “how can a cloth be made of wood?” my mind asked. “No more sour dishcloth smells….. naturally,” it proclaimed. “Naturally BACTERIA RESISTANT, stays fresh, clean, white and so soft.” “Three colours for seperate uses”.

This is an ECO-FRIENDLY product and I liked what I saw so purchased it to try out. I have not been disappointed. When you first get it out of the packet the feel of it is not soft, it almost felt plastic! But once rinsed under the tap it softens and then feels like material.

I use one in the bathroom to wipe down after a shower or bath or sink and the other in the kitchen as a dishcloth. I hang it over the arm of the tap between uses. It doesn’t smell, it stays white, it really is as good as it says on the packet. I award the manufacter Mabu Naturals International Inc. FIVE STARS.

I have one spare but it will be a long time in its packet I feel until I need to replace one already in use. They are 3months old, other cloths would have been discarded by now, but they are still as good as new!

Highly recommended. Available from your nearest Lakeland store or on-line at http://www.mabu.com.

Introducing Wise Owl

I am female, of senior years, one grown up daughter and a husband who enjoys walking. I am a Midlands lass but spent 3 years in Cyprus and 3 years in Lancaster.

My hobbies include writing, crafting, being outdoors in the countryside or by the sea, reading, sewing and attending the gym, swimming pool and spa.

With age comes wisdom – so they say. People have referred to me as wise although I would limit that to my area of knowledge. What I know I know – usually tried and tested, sometimes intuition other times through experience.

I start this blog to share with you the knowledge I have gained, products I like and recommend, books I have read that I think you will like, places I’ve visited and stuff that companies have asked my opinion of.

Let’s Mix it Up

I LOVE my Kitchen Aid Mixer. I love looking at it. I stroke it. I clean it if it gets dusty. I adore it sitting on my surface. And, yes, I do use it.

I first saw the Kitchen Aid mixers on tv – the Great British Bake Off programme. They had pink ones, pale green and blue ones, and, standing out calling to me – the red one. At the same time I noticed it, one of the ladies in my craft group had been saving to buy a Kitchen Aid mixer. Her friends gifted her the remainder of the money she needed to buy her birthday treat. I had a special ‘0’ birthday coming up and decided life was too short not to have something I really wanted. There haven’t been too many of these moments, I don’t claim to be a materialistic girl. But this was definately a ‘must have’.

On the GBBO you can see the contestants put the machines through its paces – making dough for bread, cream butter for icing, fold flour into a sponge mix. The glass bowl enables you to see how the mixture is blending. What you don’t see is the speeds in operation – slow to fast on a scale of 1-10. What you don’t see is how sturdy the glass bowl is and how, with a spatula, you can get every bit of dough or creamy mixture out leaving very little waste. You don’t see the mixing attachments being washed up and put back together to shine its love back to you as your prize possession. However, you do see lovely cakes, tasty biscuits, beautiful breads.

I can honestly say I haven’t had a bad bake since owning my Kitchen Aid Artisan mixer whether that is because when I bake now I bake more lovingly – perhaps the word mindfully is better. Having a K.A. makes me enjoy creating cakes, pastries, biscuits (I’m not a bread maker – yet).

My beautiful mixer celebrated its 5th birthday recently, I nearly kissed it but that’s a step too far.

The Tap

Situated in Tamworth town centre, Staffordshire is a micro-brewery set in a historic building backing onto Tamworth’s Norman Castle. It is near the Town Hall in Market Street. See pictures and further information on https://www.weekendnotes.co.uk/tamworth-tap/

And listen to Ben singing in the outside space on Facebook, Tamworth Brewing Co.

My husband is a regular at The Tap. His love of Real Ales is the reason I visited The Tap on 31.8.19. The bar boasted several pumps and lots of variety for Gin lovers. I was recommended to try a Rhubarb and Ginger gin which I did – my first ever gin as I had always turned up my nose remembering my mother used to sip a gin and orange on occasions when I was little.

My it was lovely. And the second one, a double, was more than I could handle as I found out. Hic!

The place had atmosphere, the queue for the bar was out the door at one point but everyone found a seat in this quirky building and outside either the front or the back.

Rating : 5 stars. Go, see, taste.
